CPD Policy Change (Effective from 1 July 2022)

With the support and encouragement of HKEX, the Institute first introduced its ECPD programme in 2004 aimed at maintaining high professional standards by requiring its members to engage in certain number of hours of professional development activities organised by the Institute annually: currently three (3) ECPD hours at the basic level; and ten (10) ECPD hours at the advanced level, out of the annual total of 15 CPD hours.

Against the backdrop of the much expanded ECPD offerings from the Institute and the increasing need for quality and relevant training to maintain and enhance members' professional standards, as well as the fact that a majority of its members already achieved 6 ECPD hours in the past years, the Institute will implement certain changes to the ECPD related provisions in our Institute CPD Policy. Please click HERE for the amended CPD Policy effective 1 July 2022.

Key changes and practical implications to members and graduates are summarised as follows:

Current and New ECPD Requirement Compared (At Basic Level)

Current requirement: 3 hours of the Institute ECPD training per CPD year

New ECPD requirements:

  • 4.5 hours of the Institute ECPD training during the next CPD year commencing on 1 July 2022
  • 6 hours of the Institute ECPD training from the CPD year commencing on 1 July 2023

For the avoidance of doubt, the requirement of 15 CPD hours per CPD year remains unchanged. Members and graduates can continue to fulfil the balance of the total 15 CPD hour requirement through other channels and providers as stipulated in the CPD Policy.

ECPD Requirement (At Advanced Level)

There is no change to the ECPD requirement at the advanced level. Members and graduates are required to accumulate a minimum of 15 ECPD hours, at least 10 of which must be obtained from the Institute ECPD training, with the balance 5 ECPD hours from the Institute ECPD training or those training on Approved Topics by Accredited Providers under Appendix 2 of CPD Policy.
