You may register as an HKCGI student any time throughout the year. Application deadlines for the upcoming examinations:
31 January (yearly) – for the following June examinations, and
31 July (yearly) – for the following November examinations
Late studentship applications shall pay a late administrative charge for enrolling in the upcoming examinations within 15 calendar days after the deadline.
Studentship application must be made online with certified true copies of all required supporting documents and the registration/re-registration fee.

Studentship of all newly registered or re-registered students will be expired on the following 30 June irrespective of the confirmation date of your studentship during the year. Students must settle the student renewal fee issued on 1 July (yearly) to maintain their HKCGI studentship.
All fees paid for the studentship registration or re-registration are non-refundable and non-transferable, even if an application is rejected by HKCGI or withdrawn by the applicant.
All applications are subject to HKCGI’s approval and at its sole and absolute discretion. HKCGI reserves the right to decline applications without assigning any reason thereof.
Students of Collaborative Course Agreement (CCA) Programmes
Studentship registration policy applies to students who are planning or preparing to complete CGQP under CCA programme.
- Students of the CCA programme:
- who are current HKCGI student must declare with the Institute, within two months after the commencement of the CCA programme.
- who never registered as HKCGI student must register as HKCGI student within three months after the commencement of the CCA programme.
- who were HKCGI students previously but had ceased the studentship must re-register as an HKCGI student within three months after the commencement of the CCA programme.

(Applicable to CCA students commence CCA programme study on or before 30 June 2024)
Students of the CCA programme who registered or re-registered as HKCGI students three months after the commencement of the CCA programme are subject to payment of CCA studentship late registration charges. The late registration charges shall be imposed from the fourth month on a monthly basis until they register as HKCGI students during their CCA programme study.(Applicable to CCA students commence CCA programme study on or after 1 July 2024)
Students of the CCA programme who registered or re-registered as HKCGI students three months after the commencement of the CCA programme are subject to payment of CCA studentship late registration charges from the fourth month until they register or re-registered as HKCGI students during their CCA programme study, including:- an administrative charge for the applicable financial year for ALL late CCA studentship applications, and
- an additional late application charge for CCA studentship from the seventh month after the commencement of the CCA programme.
Application period made from the commencement of CCA programme Late application charge 7th to 12th months Two times the studentship registration fee 13th to 24th months Three times the studentship registration fee 25th to 36th months Four times the studentship registration fee 37th months and onwards* Five times the studentship registration fee * applicable to CCA students whose study period beyond the required timeframe of three years.
- Studentship application submitted after the graduation of CCA programme may not be eligible for CCA full exemption.
Members of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI)
Subject to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) and The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), members of the ICSI can study with CGI Division. Interested ICSI members are required to get their ICSI membership verified via the ICSI’s online Endorsement of Member Verification at the ICSI website following the instructions. Once the endorsement process is completed, the ICSI will send details of members to the HKCGI. Upon receipt of the notification, HKCGI will contact the ICSI member by email for the further process of registering as a HKCGI student.
Successful applicants are eligible for module exemption and will be required to sit for the HKCGI qualifying programme examinations of three modules: Hong Kong Company Law, Corporate Governance and Risk Management.
