Graduateship Associateship Fellowship
  • Graduates of the Institute are those who have completed the Institute’s Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme (CGQP) through examinations or accredited master’s degree programmes.

    The Institute will inform students upon their completion of the CGQP and they will be required to pay a Graduate Advancement Fee before admission to Graduateship. Once the Graduateship is confirmed by the Institute, graduates should seek for election to membership (i.e. Associateship or Fellowship as appropriate) within 10 years after obtaining the graduate status.

    Although Graduates are not members of the Institute, they are required to observe and be bound by the CGI’s Charter and Byelaws, the Institute’s Articles of Association and Code of Professional Ethics and Conduct

    Graduates are entitled to receive graduate certificates and are eligible to use the designation ‘GradCG’ after their names for the duration of their Graduate status with the Institute.

  • Associates are members of the Institute who have met the election requirements set by the Institute. They can represent themselves as a Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance Professional, and are eligible to put the designatory letters of ACG (indicating Associate of CGI) and HKACG (indicating Associate of the Institute) after their names for the duration of membership.

    (*) Remarks: The six-year relevant working experience can be reduced by up to three years if applicant possessed a full-time degree programme. Reduction is subject to the duration of full-time study, e.g. if an applicant completed a full-time degree in two years, only two-year reduction may be granted.

    Graduates must submit their application for election to Associateship online together with the following:

    • *Certified true copies of work testimonials/reference letters of full employment history;
    • *Certified true copies of certificates and transcripts of academic and professional qualifications
    • (if applicable) Completed Supplementary Form to illustration the job allocation of current or previous employment;
    • Recommendation form completed by two referees holding professional qualifications, including one member of the Institute, and
    • Election fee.

    (*) Remarks: If such information was provided at the time of studentship registration, there is no need to provide it again.

    It is the applicant’s responsibility to submit all the required information and settle election fee via the online application system. Any incomplete application will not be processed and considered by the Membership Committee.

    Application deadline and expected approval dates for 2024 are set out below. All applications will be reviewed and, if appropriate, approved by the Membership Committee.

  • Fellows have the highest membership status of the Institute. They are leaders of the Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance profession. They are expected to be role models of both the Institute and the profession, and to contribute to their growth.

    They are eligible to put the designatory letters of FCG(indicating Fellow of CGI) and HKFCG (indicating Fellow of the Institute) after their names for the duration of membership.

    General requirements

    • To obtain at least eight years of relevant working experience
    • To obtain, in the past ten years, at least three years of senior working experience in the capacity of company secretary, governance professionals, risk managers, compliance managers, senior academics or senior executive positions, and
    • To be a fit and proper person in respect of both character and standing. (please read the Guideline on Fit and Proper Criteria)

    Apart from the above general requirements, the following criteria will also be considered by the Membership Committee:

    • Status of current/ most recent position
    • Size of current/ most recent organisation
    • Career progression
    • Academic and professional qualifications, and
    • Involvement in Institute’s affairs.

    Associates and Graduates must submit their applications for election to Fellowship online together with the followings:

    • *Certified true copies of work testimonials/reference letters of full employment history
    • *Certified true copies of certificates and transcripts of academic and professional qualifications
    • Comprehensive hierarchy chart and job description of current/previous employment in the recent three years
    • Information indicating the size of current employing organisation
    • Recommendation form completed by two referees holding professional qualifications, including one Fellow of the Institute, and
    • Election fee.

    (*) Remarks: If such information was provided at the time of studentship registration or election to Associateship, there is no need to provide again.
