You are eligible to register as an HKCGI student and start attending the Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme (CGQP) examinations if you are:

  • Holders of Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in any discipline with *a recognised university / higher education institution
  • Holders of professional qualification with *a recognised professional body, or
  • Current Year 3 or Year 4 undergraduates of the Partnership Bachelor’s Programme (PBP)
* Recognised qualifications include those recognised by The Chartered Governance Institute and its Divisions in other jurisdictions. Applicants are welcome to contact Studentship Registration Section for checking whether your academic (i.e. Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree) or professional qualification is recognised by HKCGI.

All applicants must hold one of the following identity cards: (1) Hong Kong; (2) Mainland China; (3) Taiwan; or (4) Macao: OR hold a certification of right of abode in: (1) Hong Kong; (2) Mainland China; (3) Taiwan; or (4) Macao.

Bachelor’s Programme
  • You may register as an HKCGI student any time throughout the year. Application deadlines for the upcoming examinations:
    31 January (yearly) – for the following June examinations, and
    31 July (yearly) – for the following November examinations

    Late studentship applications for sitting the upcoming examinations within 15 calendar days after the deadline will be accepted, with late administrative charge.

    Studentship application must be made online, together with the certified true copies of all supporting documents as required as well as the registration/re-registration fee.

    Applicants may apply for exemption assessment upon studentship registration. For details of exemption assessment, please click HERE.

    Studentship of all newly registered or re-registered students will be expired on the following 30 June irrespective of the confirmation date of your studentship during the year. Students must settle the student renewal fee issued on 1 July (yearly) to maintain their HKCGI studentship.

    All fee paid for the studentship registration or re-registration are non-refundable and non-transferable even if an application is either rejected by HKCGI or withdrawn by the applicant.

    All applications are subject to HKCGI’s approval and at its sole and absolute discretion. HKCGI reserves the right to decline applications without assigning any reason thereof.

    Students of Collaborative Course Agreement (CCA) Programmes

    Studentship registration policy applies to students who are planning or preparing to complete CGQP under CCA programme:

    • For CCA programme students who are currently HKCGI students you must declare with HKCGI, within two months after starting the CCA programme.
    • For CCA programme students who never registered as HKCGI students, you must register as an HKCGI student within three months after starting the CCA programme.
    • For CCA programme students who have registered with HKCGI previously as a student and your studentship had ceased, you are required to apply for studentship re-registration within three months after starting the CCA programme.

    Studentship registration or re-registration made after three months from the start of the CCA programme, a late registration charge shall be imposed on a monthly basis until you register as HKCGI students during the course of study.

    Studentship application submitted after the graduation of CCA programme will not be eligible for CGQP CCA full exemption.

    Members of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI)

    Subject to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) and The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), members of the ICSI can study with CGI Division. Interested ICSI members are required to get their ICSI membership verified via the ICSI’s online Endorsement of Member Verification at the ICSI website following the instructions. Once the endorsement process is completed, the ICSI will send details of members to the HKCGI. Upon receipt of the notification, HKCGI will contact the ICSI member by email for the further process of registering as a HKCGI student.

    Successful applicants will become Student(Conditional) and entitle to enjoy the same rights and obligations as other HKCGI students, subject to the following:

    • Student(Conditional) may start taking the Institute’s CGQP examinations from the date he/she become a Student(Conditional)
    • If a Student(Conditional) cannot complete the respective PBP, a grace period of two years from the expected years of graduation is allowed for the Student(Conditional) concerned to fulfil the entry requirement for HKCGI studentship (i.e. students)
    • If a Student(Conditional) still cannot meet the entry requirement after the two-year grace period, he/she will be removed from the Institute’s student register and his/her CGQP examination records with the Institute (if any), will be invalidated perpetually, and
    • All Student Conditional are required to declare their study status of the PBP/with the Institute annually whilst they remain a Student(Conditional).
