  • Overview

    The Governance Professional Mentorship Programme was first launched in 2015 with an aim to nurture young professionals and develop future leaders for the Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance profession.

    Programme Objectives

    The programme empowers governance professionals by focusing on soft skills such as effective communication and interpersonal development. It is tailored to benefit a broad spectrum of participants, including young members, graduates, and students, as well as senior and junior professionals.

    The initiative aims to cultivate a more interconnected community within HKCGI while providing valuable networking opportunities to its members. It also serves as a platform for seasoned members to share their expertise in mentoring, coaching, and communication, thereby contributing to the development of future leaders and strengthening the Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance profession.

  • For mentees

    • Engage with and learn from experienced mentors’ successes and life challenges
    • Enhance and improve leadership, professional knowledge, and interpersonal skills
    • Gain inspiration from mentors to promote holistic personal development and career planning
    • Enjoy complimentary training sessions and networking opportunities with other mentors and mentees

    For mentors

    • Develop mentoring, coaching, and communication skills
    • Engage with the younger generation
    • Connect with senior mentors, expanding your professional network
    • Gain recognition and appreciation
    • Experience personal growth by enhancing professional skills and capabilities

    In addition to their mentorship program and related activities, mentors will receive a maximum of five CPD points upon satisfactory completion.

  • Members, graduates, and students affiliated with HKCGI are invited to apply for the Mentorship Programme. All applications are subject to review and final approval by HKCGI.

    For mentees

    Eligible applicants for the programme include Associates, Graduates, and students with less than 10 years of work experience who are committed to actively engaging in HKCGI’s activities. Individuals who have participated as mentees in previous programmes may also apply, with priority given to new applicants based on availability.

    For mentors

    Experienced professionals who are Fellows and Associates with at least 15 years of work experience are encouraged to join the programme to support the development of the next generation of the Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance profession. Active participation in HKCGI’s activities is also required.

  • From mentors and mentees

    The one-year term of mentorship is from January to December each year.

    Each mentor will be paired with a maximum of two mentees based on their specific learning needs and compatibility. The mentors and mentees must agree on the mode and frequency of their interactions at the outset. It is strongly recommended to schedule two to four face-to-face meetings during the programme. Furthermore, participants are expected to attend mentorship events periodically.

    From the Institute

    The Institute will provide the following support to mentors and mentees:

    • A briefing session for mentors and mentees regarding the programme goals, participants’ roles, mentoring best practices and the mentoring process
    • Complimentary training sessions for mentors and mentees to further enhance their soft skills
    • Complimentary social activities for mentors and mentees to facilitate mentor-mentee interactions, and
    • Certificates will be presented to mentors and mentees upon satisfactory completion of the programme

    Mentors and mentees are encouraged to provide comments and reflections to the Institute for the purposes of on-going improvement and development of the programme.

  • As mentee

    • Establish clear objectives and goals for the programme
    • Set clear expectations with your mentor at the beginning of your mentor journey
    • Be proactive, contribute, and show initiative when consulting your mentor
    • Participate actively in mentorship activities with your mentor and mentees

    As mentor

    • Advisor: Share knowledge and act as an experienced and trusted counsellor
    • Coach: Give advice on improving performance and career developments
    • Teacher: Offer professional knowledge for further advancements
