Technology Series (6 Sessions)

Modern technology presents both opportunities and challenges for the governance professional, whose responsibilities have grown to be much more diverse and multi-faceted as governance work continues to evolve. Technology-assisted compliance can be cost-effective and the introduction of artificial intelligence may enhance and simplify the more mundane day-to-day procedural work. However, mere access to the latest technology and automated tools will not suffice as the proper and effective implementation of these technology remains to be critical.  HKCGI is delighted to present a series of six technology-themed webinars from February to May 2022, led by industry leaders and experts from within the technological and compliance sector. The speakers will introduce the latest compliance technology and related developments, with a focus on practical applications and emerging governance trends.

Session 5: Better Governance and Best Practice Leadership Collaboration

While a key responsibility of company secretaries is the artful preparation of minutes of the board’s actions during board meetings to reflect its proper exercise of fiduciary duties, their role has expanded over time to include many other managerial and administrative responsibilities. Company secretaries have also evolved in recent years to become senior management officers who provide strategic advice to the board on corporate governance issues.

With the increasing complexity in governance and compliance regulations, utilising the latest technology and automated tools can enhance the efficiency of company secretaries in the performance of their duties.

In this webinar, Mr Paul Li from Convene will talk about how technologies can be leveraged by company secretaries in achieving the oft-cited pillars of good corporate governance including accountability, transparency, efficiency, compliance and security. Mr Kenny Luo, Board Secretary & Company Secretary of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, will also provide an overview of main duties of company secretaries as well as practical tips and pain points of discharging them.
