Description

Technology Series (6 Sessions)

Modern technology presents both opportunities and challenges for the governance professional, whose responsibilities have grown to be much more diverse and multi-faceted as governance work continues to evolve. Technology-assisted compliance can be cost-effective and the introduction of artificial intelligence may enhance and simplify the more mundane day-to-day procedural work. However, mere access to the latest technology and automated tools will not suffice as the proper and effective implementation of these technology remains to be critical.  HKCGI is delighted to present a series of six technology-themed webinars from February to May 2022, led by industry leaders and experts from within the technological and compliance sector. The speakers will introduce the latest compliance technology and related developments, with a focus on practical applications and emerging governance trends.

Session 2: AML/CFT Regulatory Update, TCSP Licensing Renewal and Best Practice By Leveraging Technology

In May 2016, the Institute issued the AML/CFT Guideline to set standards that converge to those for financial institutions which all corporate service providers may adopt in their AML/CFT fight consistent with the requirements under the Financial Action Task Force Recommendations.

In March 2018, the Companies Registry (CR) issued guideline to assist Trust or Company Service Providers (TCSP) in Hong Kong for the compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing (Financial Institutions) Ordinance (Cap.615) (AMLO).

While the guidelines are useful, it is essential for TCSPs to set up one effective mechanism in maintaining clients’ records, conducting periodic checks and assessing AML/CFT risks. TCSPs must also keep abreast of the latest developments in AMLO and TCSP licensing requirements.

In this seminar, the Institute is delighted that speakers from a professional services firm and an innovative services provider will discuss the following elements with case sharing:

  • Update on TCSP licensing renewal and preparation for random checking by CR
  • Sharing on customer due diligence policy, record maintenance, periodic checks, risk assessment, etc and pain points in implementation
  • Demo of AML screening tool supported by Dow Jones - to streamline the AML/CFT processes for the compliance of AMLO and TCSP requirements, including screening, customer due diligence and ongoing monitoring
