Description

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a pivotal force in the legal and business landscape, redefining industries and unlocking new opportunities for growth and innovation. With the recent rise of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), addressing the risks associated with AI has become a global priority. Regardless of whether these risks materialize, there is a consensus among key stakeholders in both the private and public sectors on the urgent need for AI regulation.

On 1 August 2024, a landmark development took place with the enforcement of the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act), the first comprehensive legal framework globally designed to regulate the rapidly evolving AI landscape. This act introduces a prescriptive approach to AI legislation, categorizing AI practices based on a risk-based framework that imposes stricter security requirements. Other jurisdictions are observing this trend and are beginning to develop their own regulations regarding AI. However, the concepts of responsible AI risk management and appropriate regulatory measures are currently diverging across the globe.

For companies in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland engaged in multi-jurisdictional business, it is crucial to understand the emerging governance and regulatory challenges. The EU AI Act is at the forefront of promoting fair AI use and is expected to influence global best practices and risk mitigation strategies in AI deployment. This seminar aims to inform governance professionals and senior management about AI-related governance issues and best practices.
