ESG Reporting Certification Course (based on Hong Kong practice) (7th Cohort - 7 Pre-recorded Sessions) FLYER
The ESG Reporting Certification Course (based on Hong Kong practice) (“Course”) will be re-launched as the Seventh Cohort between September and October 2025. The Course contents have been updated to cover the latest international climate change disclosure standards adopted by the HKEX in early 2025.
This Course will give you the Certification that your employer and those working with you can trust regarding your competencies in understanding ESG and sustainability, and the process and procedures leading to ESG reporting under the HKEX Listing Rules.
The intended attendees of this Course are:
- ESG Committee/Working Group members
- Executives/governance professionals who deal with ESG issues
- Related parties who seek knowledge of ESG reporting and performance assessment
- Anyone who has an interest in ESG and sustainability issues
A Certificate that Matters
Attendees of the Course who can successfully fulfill attendance requirement (by 30 October 2025) and pass a final assessment (in November 2025) will be accredited for two years (from 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2027), and will also be permitted to use the post-nominal, 'HKCGI Cert: ESG' during the accreditation period.
The names and post-nominals of those who have successfully obtained the certification will be listed on the Institute’s designated webpage for prospective employers and public searches.
There will be a maximum of two intakes per year and a refresher course every two years for extended accreditation. The Course counts toward ECPD hours for Institute members.
Sustainability Governance Academy
All accredited Certification holders (the Holders) are eligible to join the HKCGI Sustainability Governance Academy (the Academy) free of charge.
Upon successful completion of the Seventh Cohort of ESG Reporting Certification Course (tentatively scheduled for 1 December 2025), the Holders are deemed to have agreed to be registered with the Academy and are eligible to enjoy the benefits of being a Sustainability Professional.
Re-accreditation
Before the expiry of the two-year accreditation period, Certification holders are required to complete a refresher course as organised by HKCGI for extended accreditation.

In line with Listing Rules requirements, the ESG Reporting Certification Course will cover:
- Introduction to HKEX's new ESG Reporting Code
- Key climate disclosure requirements under the ESG Code
- Directors’ duties in ESG & climate reporting
- Governance structure for ESG and climate-related disclosures
- Setting strategy, materiality assessment, and identifying risks and opportunities
- Setting metrics and targets
- ESG and climate-related disclosures
- Data collection, report drafting, timeline
- Workshops – ESG report drafting
Update on Climate Disclosures under ESG Framework
In April 2024, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) published its conclusions on the consultation regarding the new climate-related disclosure requirements in alignment with the climate disclosure standards finalised by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).
All accredited certification course holders and participants of the latest certification course will be invited to attend an annual complimentary seminar to update themselves on the latest developments as the Institute's commitment to advancing ESG and sustainability disclosure and best practices.

Entry Requirements
- Members, graduates and students of the Institute; or
- Holders of bachelor’s or higher degrees; or
- Full-time or part-time students attending courses leading to bachelor's or higher degrees

Assessment
Passing the Course means registrants have to fulfil the following:
- Attendance requirement: Registrants must watch every session in its entirety, and answer multiple-choice questions after each of the 7 sessions with unlimited attempts within the prescribed period – between early September and October 2025.
- Assessment requirement: Registrants must pass the Final Assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions within the prescribed 14-day period in early November 2025.
Government Funding
This programme is one of the Eligible Programmes under the Pilot Green and Sustainable Finance Capacity Building Support Scheme (Scheme) (https://greentalent.org.hk/).
The Scheme provides training subsidies to Hong Kong residents who are market practitioners and prospective practitioners of green and sustainable finance, namely students and graduates in relevant disciplines. Programme Provider: The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute

*The Pilot Green and Sustainable Finance Capacity Building Support Scheme only accepts reimbursement applications in relation to an Eligible Programme with an enrolment date that is on or after the effective date of such Programme.
After completing the Course as re-launched between September and October 2025 as Seventh Cohort, members and non-members of HKCGI can apply for a subsidy being 80% of the enrolment fees of $2,800 and $3,500 respectively. Full-time student applicants can apply for a subsidy being 100% of the enrolment fee of $3,500. The reimbursement application should be submitted via the application portal of the Scheme (https://www.greentalent.org.hk/auth/login) within 3 months from 1 December 2025, being the date of completion of the Course.
