Description

Following consultations and legislative proposals regarding the company re-domiciliation regime, the HKSAR Government published the new bill in the Gazette on 20 December 2024. This new regime aims to facilitate the re-domiciliation of overseas companies to Hong Kong, thereby enhancing the region's competitiveness by attracting enterprises and investments, as well as reinforcing Hong Kong’s status as a global business and financial hub. The Government is expected to pursue legislative enactment soon.

In this seminar, tax and legal experts will discuss the key features of the new company re-domiciliation regime and its related tax implications.

Additionally, the speakers will address the recent approach taken by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) regarding tax collections, which has seen more stringent measures on offshore claims and the introduction of new rules in Hong Kong aimed at mitigating potential tax exposure for businesses operating in the region.

Key outline:

  • Legal framework, eligibility criteria, and application process for re-domiciliation
  • Expected use cases of this regime in Hong Kong
  • Clarified tax implications and remaining uncertainties
  • Recent developments in tax controversy
