Description

In recent years, businesses in Hong Kong SAR have been facing significant challenges and exposing to business risks, uncertainties and disruptions arising from the global economic distress. Apart from that, the more stringent and fast-changing regulatory compliance requirements together with the implementation of the regime treating certain foreign-sourced income as chargeable to tax in Hong Kong (Foreign-sourced income exemption regime “FSIE regime”) may also impose regulatory risks and tax implications against businesses. All these factors are likely to prompt businesses in Hong Kong to consider and plan ahead an intra-group restructuring or streamlining in order to achieve cost and tax efficiency.

Furthermore, as the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department (“IRD”) will issue the profits tax return for the year of assessment 2023/24 and launch the new version of IRD Taxonomy Package as well as electronic filing of profits tax return services in early April 2024, it is essential to stay updated on the latest changes on the profits tax return and electronic filing.

In this webinar, the speakers will cover the following areas from the company secretarial and Hong Kong profits tax perspectives:

  1. Latest updates on the compliance requirements for the year of assessment 2023/24
  2. Key changes of the 2023/24 profits tax return
  3. Updates on the electronic filing of profits tax return
  4. Discussion on the common ways to streamline group structure in Hong Kong including court-free horizontal/vertical amalgamation, members’ voluntary liquidation and deregistration
  5. Outline the requirements, procedures, implementation timeline and effect of court-free horizontal/vertical amalgamation, members’ voluntary liquidation and deregistration pursuant to the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance
  6. Updates on the FSIE regime and its implications to Hong Kong companies within the context of group restructuring
