Mahjong, originating as a game of chance invented by ancient Chinese, is not only a form of entertainment but also a symbol of social interaction and cultural heritage.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Wan Chai once had as many as ten mahjong parlours, creating a lively atmosphere. Since 1969, the Hong Kong Mahjong Entertainment Company has operated on Lockhart Road, with its giant neon sign becoming a striking landmark on the street. Mahjong parlours also frequently appear in classic scenes of local films, serving as a microcosm of Hong Kong’s warmth and human touch.

麻雀，起源於中國古人發明的博弈遊戲，粵港澳俗稱「麻雀」。牌具一般以竹、骨或塑膠製成，北方麻雀每副136張，南方麻雀則多八張花牌——春夏秋冬、梅蘭菊竹，共144張。這項遊戲不僅是娛樂，更是人際交流與文化傳承的象徵。

麻雀不僅是一種遊戲，更是香港人情味的縮影。五、六十年代，灣仔曾有過十間麻雀館，場面熱鬧非常。香港麻雀娛樂公司自1969年起於駱克道創業，巨型霓虹招牌更成為街頭矚目的地標。麻雀館亦常見於本土電影的經典場景，你是否也曾好奇其中的故事？
