Job Posting Details

We are seeking a senior manager with extensive experience in engineering safety to lead the HSE programs in various engineering safety areas, including construction, fire, high energy, mechanical workshops, etc. The position reports to the Director and Associate Director of the Health, Safety and Environment Office of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and continuously improve HSE policies, procedures, and performance monitoring to ensure regulatory and guideline compliance. Promote best practices for building a safe and healthy work environment in the university community.
- Lead and deliver HSE programs with strong experience; work closely with other departments for the implementation.
- Supervise a team of technical HSE staff in implementing various occupational safety, health, and environmental programs to identify potential hazards, evaluate risk, and develop control strategies to minimize hazard exposure associated with teaching, research, and operational activities at the university.
- Liaise with government agencies regarding the relevant regulatory environment, health, and safety matters.
- Plan and conduct annual fire and emergency evacuation drills.
- Manage engineering safety training programs and deliver health and safety training courses as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements:
- A degree in Engineering, Science or related disciplines
- Minimum 10 years’ relevant working experience in an environment, health, and safety role, preferably in a tertiary institution or scientific research institution.
- Strong knowledge of local and international EHS regulations, standards, and codes of practice.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Professional qualifications in engineering safety, Registered Safety Officer (RSO), and Registered Safety Auditor (RSA) are highly preferred.
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua)
(Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits. Housing benefits will also be provided where applicable. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
